I decided to start a new topic where all new users of this forum can say hello.
Hope that that's OK with the mods...
Hi I'm Primož, I'm 22 years old and I come from small country in Europe called Slovenia...
Even though I use Linux for almost a year now I still consider my self "super-noob".
Having al kinds of troubles with my Linux....
I'm currently using Kubuntu, but I did try Arch in past and did quite like it, especially the installation part, as you learn as you go (at least I did).
And even though I quite like Kubuntu and it's community I might change to Chakra or Arch in near future.
I keep my kubuntu quit bleeding edge. I have KDE4.2beta2 on it...
Anyway I just wanted to say Hi / hello to everyone here, and hope that Chakra gets released soon but no need to rush.

So now me:
I'm Lukas, coming from Germany, 16 years old. I'm using Linux now for 3 years or something...
I began with some KDE-Development a bit over a year ago and now I'm in the KDEmod/Chakra-Team since around January I guess (that's when Shaman got one of the "official" tools)...
So far..,
Lukas
PS: Ahh I started using Kubuntu but switched to arch after 1,5 years or something

Hi there ![]()
Chakra got my attention through this article by Jos Poortvliet picked up via KDE Planet RSS feed just a few minutes ago. I'm frequently absorbing nice words about Arch - in particular when it comes to KDE 4.x implementation. Now Chakra / KDEmod seems to become the final brick in the wall making it safe to climb. I'm rather convinced that KDE 4 is the future of Desktop Environments. Not only for what's already there, but for what it promises for the future. It simply makes sense to me.
At present I'm using OpenSuse 11.1 KDE 4.2 Beta 2 mainly because of it's KDE 4 implementation. I have been playing with quite few distros, but started off with SuSE 8 some years ago.
You're right: I'm borderline geriatric ![]()
Chakra seems to be THE christmas present this year, and I'll start checking out my hardware (Thinkpad T61 and HSDPA modems) and potential pitfalls due to Chakra Alpha state ASAP.
A big hand to Jos Poortvliet - and merry christmas to all.

I'm a NEW to Chakra user and I will be downloading the LiveCD. I will test it on my Machine, HPtx1000 it has a touchscreen and I will try to let you know what does or doesn't work. I am an almost intermmediate user of Linux and I have 'sidux' on every box I own or soon will. One other box has PClinuxOS which I think is good if it likes your hardware 100%.
I don't have any issues on any of my hardware with sidux. The tx1000 represents the newest hardware I have and 'will' have for some time at the moment.
I have a friend that uses Arch and started with it about the same time I found and started using sidux. He has done well with it and speaks highly of it. I also want to give it a try for the learning experience. Truth to tell though, I'm currently just gettjng time to be able to review the install manual of Arch, Winter Vacation for Spring Festival here in China, I still worry if I'll have the 'time'. Seeing something like this based on Arch and keeping 100% compatible with Arch is good.
I think it will bring Arch to more users. I think there are those that wish to learn. For a while I tried Sabayon and was really liking the idea of having a 'working' running system in a short time, but being able to 'learn' about how to use Gentoo. Sabayon had it's issues though. I may not have the 'time' this vacation to try a full Arch, but with a project like this I will be able to get Arch on my machine and that is something I very much look forward too... ![]()
Great project and jsut looking at the forum here it looks like you have a lot of good things planned!

Hi! I'm Henry from northern European country called Finland.
I'm 17 years old (1991) and I have used Linux for about two and half years. I started with, surprise, Ubuntu 6.06 and used it till 8.04. When I had used 8.04 for a month or two, I wanted to try some other distro. After testing openSUSE, Fedora, PCLOS, Mandriva and Arch, I decided to switch to Arch Linux which was so much better compared to Ubuntu. In two years I got the basic knowledge of Linux, I'm not professional though, so switching to Arch wasn't even so hard. My friend even helped me to get used to new package manager etc., he uses Gentoo himself.
Because I was basic "Ubuntunoob" for two years, I was also used to Gnome. That's why I'm using Gnome at the moment in Arch. I tried to use KDE4.0.X, but it was so buggy that I switched back to Gnome. But when I saw this project, I really want to get rid of Gnome and start to use KDE. However, it might be better for me to wait for KDE4.2... ![]()

Hi
I am neither a geek nor a long-time linux user.
I am a recent convert to Linux and a 5 day old Arch User. In these 5 days I have learnt a lot more about Linux than I did with other distros for months. And this is the first time I tried KDE except briefly flirting with Kubuntu for sometime.
I must say, I'm amazed at how clean, fast and tidy my system boots, looks and performs. Hats off to the 2 developers of Kdemod.
( i just cannot believe that 2 dudes have managed to tweak together such an amazing DE when an army works for MS and yet manages to suck most every time..!)

Hello Guys,
I recently switched to arch linux (I was previously on kubuntu and then opensuse) and I installed the kdemod stuff. Your KDE is far better than that of opensuse, I'm really enjoying KDE again.
I also tried to install arch from your alpha live-CD, the installer and the other tools are lovely and I hope they'll become even better with the due time.
Keep it up with the awesome work!

Hi. My name is Kevin. I live in California and I was born in 1989.
Ive been using linux now for the past 3-4 months. I started using Kubuntu 8.10 as my first distro (Chose KDE over GNOME because well...Gnome sucks =P.) (In all reality it looks so much like the Mac interface to me and i never loiked it that much.)
I started using Chakra a few weeks ago and I have been loving it. I'm a computer technician so while Linux is very foreign to me, but it is not difficult for me to grasp.

My name is Phil Miller. I'm from germany. Born in 82 and using linux since Ubuntu 6.06. The debian way wasn't my cup of tea so I looked for a distro I could help to get it more popular. I had paldo GNU/Linux chosen and joined the team. Wrote their installer and also some articles about it for the german magazine "linux user". They even pressed both ISOs of paldo on their dvd-media of the magazine.
So I was a gnomer for quite a while. Chakra brought me to KDE 4.2. KDE3 never got me but KDE 4.2 did. Will see how I can help this project ...

Hello everyone. I'm Kellen from Kansas, USA. I first started using linux back in either 2000 or 2001, I don't remember exactly. Started with Mandrake and then Xandros. I've done lots of distro hopping including MEPIS, U/K/Xubuntu, Zenwalk, Mint, Antix, ..... LOL. I've been using Arch/KDEMod for 4 or 5 months now and I've had no urges to switch whatsoever. I think it's a keeper!

Hey guys, i am from Dallas Texas, in the USA. started using linux in middle school got in over my head and gave up on it. Deployed and started using K/Ubuntu but I got tired of nerfed linux, so i started looking at slack again but I found KDEmod and have been struggling with installing it, freaking 64bit processor. Arch is on the bleeding edge of 64bit development so it kinda fit a whole lot.

Hi everyone,
I'm Anshul from Bangalore, India. A newcomer to Archlinux-Chakra, but not a newcomer to Linux. I've been a Mandriva/Opensuse guy for as long as I can recall
Chakra is simply amazing..KDEMod guys have done a great job of putting this all together, and its just an Alpha release!! I cannot imagine what a proper release would be.
Glad to be here!

As you can probably guess.... my name is Allan.
I have been an Arch user for around two years and an Arch developer for a bit over one. I do not actually use Chakra/KDEmod but come over here looking for things that Arch could fix or areas it could improve and to have a look at issues with Shaman.

Whiii I'm new thread.
My name is Mikko, im finnish and as lazy as they come. =P
First experience with linux was in 90'ies with debian and gentoo which ended very quickly with dialup winmodem
driver problems. Altho i did like kde and linux even back then but no internet was kind of an issue. ![]()
So tried ubuntu in 2005/6 and was sold but "quickly" in 2006 found Arch and "distrohopping" stopped.
Was sold for gnome for a year then came the openbox/tiling WM period for longer theeeen a new pc and kdemod4 and now me finally happy.
Now where Chakra comes in is that as good as arch installer is, its a bore after you've done it 6-8 times.
When Chakra matures it could save me about 4 hours of work on those unfortunate times you just have to reinstall.
LVM and raid please asap =P

My name is Gary from the United States, Oklahoma to be exact. Almost 47 years old. I have been using linux for about 5 or 6 years. Started with Linspire/Freespire. Moved to sidux for a while, tried arch for a while and went back to sidux. Tried a little distro that a buddy of mine was putting together, was helping build packages for him, then he decided to not do it any more so I needed something that I could stay with for a while. Took me a while to get Chakra installed but it was worth it. KDE 4 is the best yet and KDEmod is the best of the best. It keeps getting better and better.
