Monday, August 30. 2010Chakra GNU/Linux 0.2.0 (Jaz) released The Chakra Developement Team is proud to announce the availability of Jaz our first live-image using our stable repositories._____________________________ "All that jazz" _____________________________ We have been working hard since March 2010 on Chakra GNU/Linux. 10 Developers hacking, packing and writing documentations for our new Distribution. Chakra is a fork of ArchLinux. We are using pacman but working on our own package managment called akabei. Since the split we created some confusion, but we are going in the right direction. To point out some of our features: Over 5670 packages are now available for our new Distribution and over 500 get installed by this media. To showcase our bundle-system we created cinstall - a multi-tool to create and manage our bundles & packages. All those features you'll find later in shaman. Tribe still needs some love but it is stable enough to install this image. _____________________________ What is under the hood? _____________________________ Arch-Users will feel right at home from the start. Most things are still like in ArchLinux. We have our own patched kernel to fit our needs for our live-medias and additional features like squashfs with lzma support to squeeze even more on our images. All packages are recompiled by our team to get a stable system. On this image we installed translations for catala, deutsch, english and español. Even in live-mode you have your translated menues. More languages you can install thru tribe. _____________________________ What programs will you find ? _____________________________ We want to give you a minimal, full functional KDE Desktop you can build on. We have all kinds of programs and plasmoids you can think of from the KDE-World in our repositories. Simply use cinstall or pacman to search them. Here few to point out: _____________________________ Most noticeable changes & additions since 0.1.0 (Phoix) _____________________________ Features: Installed locales: _____________________________ Download _____________________________ Sourceforge Page

Saturday, August 21. 2010End of the road in sight for KDEmod![]() Any of you following the news here, know it was just a matter of time, until this announcement. Right from the start of the new base, it was known, that KDEmod had to be maintained until the new Chakra was at least as stable. Only then would it be appropriate, and with plenty of notice to KDEmod users, to end support to KDEmod. That time has arrived now, and the team agreed that KDEmod will be fully supported until the release of KDE 4.6. The day of that release will be the end of KDEmod. You can read more detail about this at Phasing out KDEmod.

Thursday, August 12. 2010[Development RLS] Phoix B0811 CD/DVD Tomorrow I'm off to France. Right before I leave I finished two respins of Phoix. There is a usb-bootable CD-Image and a full packed DVD. Both come with the stable KDE SC 4.4.5 and the latest 2.6.33.7 kernel. 2.6.35.1, which came out today is available in our repositories. My two new themes for our Distribution: Ashoc and Crunchy-Branch found also the way into the images. Changes to point out: Bluedevil is now our standard bluetooth tool so you can connect your mobile devices simple on Chakra-Linux. Lots of new packages found the way into our repositories: Wine 1.3, VirtualBox 3.2.8, bangarang 1.0.1 - just a few to call - more to find ... (Over 4050 pkgs now) If you like you can help us testing our new Xorg18-Repo. I had troubles with my netbook so it didn't find the way on the disc. Maybe you have more luck to get it running. Howto's you can find in our forums. Have still a nice summer and wish me luck for a good trip to France. Phil Miller and the Chakra-DevTeam Links Download Phoix B0811 CD/DVD Chakra Xorg-Stacks Chakra Artwork Tuesday, August 10. 2010kernel26-testing 2.6.35 Series for Ashoc/Phoix available The wonderful thing about Linux is: You get always something new to play. Since we keep one kernel as long as possible in our core-repository I decided to create a new package called kernel26-testing. All additional modules are tagged the same. A full list of all pkgs you can find in our Online-Packages-Viewer We added our Chakra-Patches and Linux Desktop Responsiveness Patches got added aswell. Only nouveau-drm/xf86-video-nouveau combo got added today and is not tested at all. I like to get some feedback from you guys if it works at all. Test the new stuff and report back on our Saturday, July 31. 2010[Development RLS] Ashoc Preview 3 Just in time before the big summer starts for us we finished our third preview of Ashoc featuring KDE SC 4.5.0. This time I managed to create two themes for our Distribution: Ashoc and Crunchy-Branch. Tell us what you think and how we can improve them for you. Changes to point out: Bluedevil is now our standard bluetooth tool so you can connect your mobile devices simple on Chakra-Linux. Lots of new packages found the way into our repositories. XMBC, wine, blender - just a few to call - more to find ... Drake and Manuel coding like Maniacs on our Bundle-System so we have now two packages: Second is not so stable. It should work with E.D.N we will release this winter. If you like you can help us testing our new Xorg18-Repo. I had troubles with my netbook so it didn't find the way on the disc. Maybe you have more luck to get it running. Howto's you can find in our forums. Have a nice summer Phil Miller and the Chakra-DevTeam Links Download Ashoc Preview3 Chakra Xorg-Stacks Chakra Artwork Thursday, July 29. 2010pacman 3.4.0 hits Chakra-LinuxWell it took a little longer to adapt Chakra-Linux to the new pacman version. Our buildsys-scripts needed to be updated to work proper with the new pacman-version. All developers should update their chroots and report any problems directly back to me. The changes in this release are detailed in the NEWS file. Notable changes in this release: Thursday, July 29. 2010xorg18 repoThere's a new repository for xorg-server 1.8 packages. As this release requires new drivers and reconfiguration, I decided to put it in its own repository to not break our repos for a lot of users. Packages have been built on top of core-testing and platform-testing Kernel 2.6.33.6 is recommended due to DRI improvements in that version. To use the repository, add this repository on top of core-testing to pacman.conf: [xorg18] Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist This release works with udev for input hotplugging and supports /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/*.conf as replacement for the hal .fdi files. After upgrading to this release, configuration for input devices in hal is ignored and should be done by udev rules or xorg.conf.d files. Documentation about this change can be found on: fedora-wiki Support you'll find also in our forums. nvidia-96xx user can't use this new xorg-stack since that driver don't support the new xorg-server. Sunday, July 25. 2010KDE SC 4.4.95 released for Ashoc Version 4.5 of the KDE SC (Software Compilation) is just weeks away from being formally released as the six-month refresh to this multi-platform, open-source desktop stack. KDE SC 4.5 brings a lot of new features and improvements to the table, but if you're too impatient to wait around or want to see that this release comes together nicely, the third release candidate is now available for testing. This build was done by Manuel Tortosa and me. We ship KDE SC 4.4.95 with kdepim 4.4.5 since the kdepim 4.5-beta1 is more alpha-like than any stable. The KDE SC 4.5 RC2 release announcement can be read at KDE.org. 4.4.95 comes with lots of bugfixes and should be the last RC for KDE SC 4.5. Please post all bugs to kde.org and test it as best as you can. Grab the latest Ashoc Image to test it live. Monday, July 12. 2010Chakra July Releases & Updates![]() Another month and we have some news for you: Chakra GNU/LInux repositories We moved KDE SC 4.4 Series to desktop. It didn't went as we expected so we decided to patch our kernel as minimal as possible as we did before. For all new user it is recommended to use this new Phoix build to install Chakra GNU/Linux. You can find the links here: Forum Build-Notes GTK2+ This image is gtk2 free, so you will miss flashplugin in this image. Also you can't start nvidia-settings since that also needs gtk2. Use nvidia-xconfig instead. You can always install missing packages with pacman from our repositories. Read more about gtk-freeness here: Forum FBSPLASH This image sets up fbsplash for installed system. I've to find a way to display it also on bootup for livecd but it might not be good since it is nice to see the hard- ware detection working on livecd-bootup. Read more about fbsplash here: Forum System Requirements: Features: Known issues: Tribe can't create partition-tables on blank disks: Wiki Changes: since build [0627] Feedback from the community is appreciated since we are close to beta1 E.D.N.
